Cholil Mahmud Calls The Chaos Of The Rights Law Also Widely Disrupted By The Public

JAKARTA - Cholil Mahmud, the Greenhouse Effect frontman (ERK) who currently serves as Acting Chairman of the Federation of Indonesian Musician Unions (FESMI), stated that the chaos of the Copyright Law (UU Hak Cipta) has harmed many parties.

The problem between the songwriters and the singer, such as the Ari Bias case with Agnez Mo, which has been decided by the Central Jakarta Commercial Court and continues with an appeal at the Supreme Court, is one of the most concrete examples.

The guilty verdict against Agnes at the first level, made many singers doubt and fear to perform songs created by others.

This, said Cholil, not only harms songwriters and singers, but has also penetrated the public sphere widely.

"Finally, the singer is afraid to sing. If you are afraid to sing a loss, not just musicians, actually songwriters have lost, so we are destroyed together," said Cholil when met in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta on Thursday, July 10.

"Publics are also hampered. What used to be a social function, access to entertainment was hampered, because there was fear among musicians," he continued.

Cholil felt that problems such as Ari Bias and Agnez Mo should be resolved by sitting together. According to him, there are ways that don't have to cause fear among musicians.

"Because if one is attacked, finally one defends himself, makes legal efforts," he said.

However, Cholil did not deny the problems in royalty management, especially the complaints of songwriters about the performance of the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) and the Collective Management Institute (LMK).

He mentioned the need for improvements to systems and regulations related to the copyright of songs or music.

"So, there are all problems. The LMK also has a confidence problem in transparency and distribution. Then there is a gap in the law," he said.
