For The Sake Of The Deterrent Effect, Commission III Of The DPR Asks The Police To Sanction The Perpetrators Of The Abuse Of Official Cars
JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Martin Tumbelaka, highlighted the misuse of official vehicles by the son of a police official which led to the hit-and-run case in Medan City, North Sumatra. He also asked for evaluation and sanctions related to the use of official cars by the authorities.
Martin assessed that this incident was also a warning that the discipline and exemplary within the National Police was the main foundation for building public trust in law enforcement institutions.
"The official car belonging to the police is a means that should be used to carry out state duties, maintain public order and security. When official vehicles are misused by unauthorized parties, let alone violate the law, what is at stake is not just the name of an individual or family, but the reputation and legitimacy of the institution as a whole," said Martin Tumbelaka, Friday, July 11.
Therefore, Martin encouraged the National Police to apply proportional and firm internal sanctions against officials who were negligent in supervising official assets. Both in the form of harsh warnings, office reviews, to ethical examinations if necessary.
"This is important so that there is a deterrent effect and it becomes a lesson for all levels of the police. Negligence in maintaining official cars cannot be ignored," said Martin.
In addition, Martin assessed that there needs to be a thorough evaluation of the procedure for using official vehicles, including the user monitoring and recording protocol.
"This is so that there will be no more abuse by families or external parties who do not have the authority," explained the legislator from the North Sulawesi electoral district.
Martin also encourages the strengthening of the culture of integrity and responsibility at all levels of internal leadership of the Police. Because according to him, accountability is not only owned by the institution, but also the personal moral responsibility of every official.
"The public considers the credibility of the National Police institution not from slogans, but from concrete actions in upholding discipline towards its own members," said Martin.
"Especially at this time, the community is very critical of the example of officials, both in the use of state facilities and in personal life," he continued.
As a partner of the National Police, Martin also ensured that Commission III of the DPR RI was committed to continuing to supervise and encourage every legal deviation to be handled fairly and transparently.
"Not only to enforce the law, but to ensure that justice, discipline, and integrity are truly the basic values within our police bodies," said Martin.
"Yes, even though this case ended peacefully, it does not mean that the police official car can be used carelessly," he said.
