Bluesky Launches Age Verification Policy, Especially For UK Users

JAKARTA Bluesky has implemented a number of changes to its platform, specifically for users in the UK. This policy change is implemented to comply with the Online Security Act in the region.

The law (UU) requires online platforms, including Bluesky, to take specific steps in reducing the risk of exposure to harmful content to children. Some of the rules in the law will take effect later this July.

Therefore, Bluesky will take advantage of the Children's Web Service (KWS) from Epic Games. This service will provide age verification options for communities in the United Kingdom. There are several methods that can be selected, ranging from ID verification to face.

Without verifying, the user account will enter the account category under 18 years of age automatically. Accounts in that category cannot see content for adults and a number of features will be disabled.

"For users under 18 years of age or don't want to go through this process, we will disable appropriate content for adults, and we will disable features like direct messages," Bluesky said, quoted on Friday, July 11.

Bluesky says that all users in the region will get notifications for verification. When the notification is tapped, users will see the Age Insurance page with the Verification button Now at the bottom.

In addition to providing age verification options, Bluesky emphasizes that they will continue to apply unwanted content protection, especially from children. This is done as a form of cooperation with governments in the UK and other countries.

"We will continue to pay attention to how we are trying to protect children from unwanted content, and how we can improve it," Bluesky said.
