Kremlin Confirms Ukraine's Peace Process Doesn't Stall
JAKARTA - The Kremlin said on Thursday Russia did not think Ukraine's peace negotiations had stalled despite US President Donald Trump's remarks about Russian President Vladimir Putin and the resumption of deliveries of several weapons by Washington to Ukraine.
President Trump said on Tuesday he was unhappy with President Putin and accused the Kremlin leader of throwing "a lot of nonsense".
On the other hand, the United States sent artillery shells and rocket artillery missiles moving to Ukraine, two US officials told Reuters.
When asked by Reuters whether Ukraine's peace process stalled due to President Trump's statement and the resumption of US arms shipments, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: "No, I don't think so. You can't say that," Reuters reported July 10.
Russia, Peskov said, is waiting for a signal from Kyiv regarding whether they will join the third round of negotiations, after it first started in May in Istanbul, Turkey.
"We have repeatedly said that it would be better for us to achieve our goal through peaceful political and diplomatic means, but so far this has not happened, special military operations will continue, and the reality on the ground continues to change every day," Peskov said.
President Putin ordered tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine in February 2022, after eight years of fighting in eastern Ukraine between Russian-backed separatists and Ukrainian forces.
The United States says more than 1.2 million people have been killed and injured in the war since 2022.
