Governor Pramono: Jakarta Can't Be A World City If The Government Is Dirty

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo emphasized the importance of realizing a clean government as the main prerequisite for Jakarta to become a modern and resilient global city. This was conveyed by Pramono in his remarks at the Corruption Eradication Coordination Meeting which was held in Ancol, North Jakarta, Thursday, July 10.

According to Pramono, integrity and transparency are the main foundations in building an inclusive and global competitive city. He assessed that maintaining a clean government is not an easy task, but a tough test that must be faced by every public official.

On this occasion, Pramono shared his personal experience during his career in government, including when he had handled Presidential Decree (Kepres) for a decade in President Joko Widodo's administration. He admitted that he deliberately did not inform anyone that he was the party who prepared the Presidential Decree document, including the matter of appointing officials.

This step, according to him, is a form of self-protection from the potential temptation of corruption that can arise at any time. For Pramono, once tempted, he will forever be in the circle of temptation. Therefore, the principle of openness and an organized system is something he emphasizes at this time to all levels of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

As governor, he stressed that the entire government process should be carried out in a transparent and systematic manner, in order to prevent gaps in irregularities. He also realized that with Jakarta's status as the area with the highest budget in Indonesia, the potential temptation to commit acts of corruption was enormous.

Pramono emphasized that being alert to corruption is not only a form of professional responsibility, but also personal. He said that he always imagined his grandson's face whenever a temptation appeared, as a way to remind himself of the importance of maintaining good name and integrity.

Through his experience, Pramono invited all government officials in Jakarta to jointly maintain integrity, build a strong system, and make transparency a work culture. He hopes that Jakarta can be an example for other regions, not only in terms of physical development, but also in governance that is clean and free of corruption.
