Toyota Reportedly Delays Launch Of 7 Passengers' Electric SUV Due To This Change
Toyota has reportedly postponed the launch of the seven-passenger electric SUV as the Japanese brand will continue to increase production of popular gasoline and hybrid cars. Quoting from the Drive page, Thursday, July 10, a recent report from Bloomberg highlighted the shift in product strategies for the bongsor SUV segment which is quite in demand. The Japanese brand originally planned to launch a three-line SUV by 2025, but continues to be pushed back until 2027. Now, the launch is reportedly set to be postponed until 2028. The new model will initially be produced in Indiana for the United States market, but its production site has been moved to Kentucky for production facilities scheduled to start producing electric vehicles by 2026. This delay occurred as many brands were re-evaluating their electric vehicle plans amid slowing sales in key markets.

Reaping the success with the current hybrid model of Toyota products also provides little overview of why the Japanese giant delayed the launch of its bongsor SUV. For example, there is a Grand Highlander enjoying its extraordinary success. In fact, in June 2025 the Grand Highlander became Toyota's second best-selling SUV model in the United States, after RAV4, and sold twice as much as Highlander. During the second quarter of 2025 (April to June), the sale of the Grand Highlander increased by 31.3 percent compared to the previous year. The car is equipped with a four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine and a hybrid engine. This larger vehicle also adds a more powerful hybrid max variant.
For the Indonesian market itself, Toyota has several hybrid car models from Toyota Camry, Altis, Alphard, Corolla Cross, Yaris Cross including Zenix which is quite popular.
