Police Interrogate Members Of The Aceh DPR Regarding The Scholarship Corruption Case

BANDA ACEH - Aceh Police Special Criminal Investigation Directorate investigators summoned six members of the Aceh People's Representative Council (DPRA) regarding the investigation of alleged scholarship corruption in Aceh.

"The summons are made in stages for questioning," said the Director of Special Criminal Investigation for the Aceh Police, Kombes Margiyanta in Banda Aceh, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 5.

The summoning of the six DPRA members was carried out after the Minister of Home Affairs received permission on behalf of the President. The permit from the Minister of Home Affairs is to comply with Article 29 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 11 of 2006 concerning Aceh Governance.

Six members of the DPRA who were summoned to provide this information were AA, AS, HY, IU, YH, and Z. The summons were related to the investigation of alleged corruption in education assistance at BPSDM Aceh for the 2017 budget.

"Two people have fulfilled the investigators' summons. Today there are two other people. Summons to complete the investigation files for the alleged corruption crime," said Kombes Margiyanta.

The Aceh government in 2017 allocated a budget of more than Rp. 22.3 billion for scholarships for study program students ranging from diploma three to doctoral or doctoral degrees.

The scholarship budget is placed at the Aceh Human Resources Development Agency (BPSMD). The scholarships were distributed to 803 recipients with the realization reaching IDR 19.8 billion.

"Until now investigators have asked about 400 students from the 800 recipients of the education funds," continued Kombes Margiyanta.

Previously, the Aceh Anti-Corruption Movement (GeRAK) non-governmental organization reported indications of corruption in the distribution of Aceh Government education aid scholarships for the 2017 fiscal year.

The findings of the Aceh Inspectorate stated that the scholarships came from proposals from 24 members of the Aceh DPR. The number of recipients reached 938 students, consisting of 825 recipients of proposals from Aceh DPR members and 86 applicants independently.
