Minister Of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Gives Compensation For Deceased Inheritance Of ASN Handling COVID-19

JAKARTA - The Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Tjahjo Kumolo handed over compensation for the State Civil Servants (ASN) who died in the task of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tjahjo Kumolo presented the award and compensation together with the Head of the State Civil Service Agency (BKN) Bima Haria Wibisana and the President Director of PT Taspen Antonius NS Kosasih.

The government provides awards and compensation to ASNs who sacrificed their lives in the task of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, posthumous promotion is a higher level, and pensions for posthumous widows/widowers are 72 percent of the basic pension.

Awards and compensation were symbolically given to the families of the eight ASNs who died in the task of handling COVID-19. All ASN health workers who die in their assignment are given compensation and rewards by applicable regulations.

The amount of compensation received by families or heirs is between IDR 200 million and more than IDR 300 million or depending on the rank and class of the ASN.

The compensation includes a component of old age savings and works accident benefits. The financial rights received by the heirs are compensation for work death, mourning money, funeral expenses, and scholarship assistance for the victim's child.

This award is proof of the government's concern for the families and heirs of ASN who have been left behind. Although it needs to be realized, he said, this award is certainly not commensurate with the sacrifice of the lives of ASNs who died.

The compensation received is expected to be utilized properly according to the priorities of each family and heirs.

This compensation is mandated by Government Regulation Number 70/2015 concerning Work Accident Benefits and Death Benefits for ASN.

By-Law Number 5 of 2014 concerning ASN, pension and old-age benefits for civil servants are provided as protection for the continuity of old age income as well as rights and rewards for their service.

The Head of BKN Bima Haria Wibisana expressed his deep sorrow for the deaths of the heroes of health. He hopes that the compensation given to the heirs can be used properly.

"Even though this number is quite large, it is not commensurate with the sacrifice of the civil servants' lives", Bima said as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 5.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT Taspen Antonius NS Kosasih expressed his gratitude to the health workers who died in this task.

Kosasih said PT Taspen gave the highest appreciation to the award recipients while at the same time supporting the handling of COVID-19. For Kosasih, they are health heroes who have died for the nation and state.

"To the heirs, thank you for the active role and support for the civil servants who died during their lifetime", said Kosasih.
