Eternity C Ship Attacked By Drones And Grenades Off Yemen Beach, 2 Crew Members Died

JAKARTA - Two crew members of the Liberian-flagged bulk carrier operated by Greece, Eternity C were killed in a drone/drone and speedboat attack off the coast of Yemen on Monday night.

This was conveyed by the Liberian shipping delegation at a meeting of the International Maritime Organization on Tuesday, July 8.

The case of death on board adds to the number of sailors killed in an attack on a ship in the vital shipping corridor to six people.

Monday's attack on Eternity C, 50 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah port in Yemen, is the second against merchant ships in the region since November 2024, according to an official at the European Union's Aspides Operations.

Hours before the attack, Iran's sided Houthi militant group claimed responsibility for the attack on Liberian-flagged MV Magic Seas bulk carriers and operated by Greece off Yemen's southwest coast on Sunday, saying the ship sank.

"While Liberia was processing shocks and sadness at the attack on Magic Seas, we received reports that Eternity C was again attacked, attacked with horror and caused the deaths of two sailors," the Liberian delegation told a UN shipping agency meeting.

At least two crew members were injured, ship operators, based on Cosmoship Management information, and maritime security sources Reuter received.

Eternity C, with 22 crew members - 21 Filipinos and one Russian - inside, was attacked by a drone and a rocket-propelled grenade fired from a manned speedboat, sources told Reuters.
