Liga 1 2025/2026 Changed Its Name To Super League

JAKARTA PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) has officially released the schedule for the 2025/2026 Liga 1 season. August 8 was chosen to be the beginning of the new season.

This news was conveyed by PT LIB as the league operator on the sidelines of the agenda of the General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) in Jakarta on Monday, July 7, 2025.

"We always kick-off making one standard chart. Kick-off in August 202 and ending in May 2026."

"Just like the one in the leagues. We will always start in early August."

"Yes, it is possible that on August 8, 2025 and will end at the end of May 2025," said PT LIB President Director Ferry Paulus during a press conference in Jakarta, Monday, July 7.

Not only providing information on the start of the new season, but PT LIB also announced the name change for the two competitions under their auspices.

"Starting this season (2025/2026) we will rebrand by carrying the name BRI Super League for League 1 and Pegadaian Championship for League 2," said Ferry again.

Ferry Paulus also emphasized that the name change will continue to be attached even though the main sponsor changes in the future. The highest level league will be officially named the Super League, while the second level of Indonesian football is called Championship.

Namun, perubahan nama tidak akan berlaku untuk Liga 3. Musim depan masih tetap menggunakan nama Liga Nusantara. Selain itu, PT LIB selaku operator liga juga akan mengalami perubahan nama menjadi I-League.

"The entity is still PT LIB, but the brand is I-League, not LIB anymore," he said.

Still on the same occasion, in preparation for the new season and real efforts to transform Indonesian football, PT LIB officially appointed Takeyuki Oya as General Manager (GM) of Competition and Operations.

Takeyuki Oya had previously worked for 16 years in J-League (Japanese League). There, Oya works as GM Media Promotion and J-League Department of International Business and J-League Global Business GM.

"PT LIB introduces Takeyuki Oya as GM Competition and Operations. This is extraordinary, there is a breakthrough where PT LIB ensures that it runs professionally, transparently, and well."

"His experience has been 16 years. He believes that the Indonesian League can be improved. I thank Mr. Ferry, extraordinary breakthroughs, improvements to the Indonesian national team calendar, implementation of VAR, maintenance cooperation continues to be improved," said Erick Thohir as the General Chairperson (Ketum) of PSSI who was also present.
