Jannik Sinner Qualifies Dramatically For Wimbledon Quarter-Finals After Dimitrov Resigns Due To Injury

JAKARTA Major seed Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2025 in a way he didn't expect. After trailing by two sets of Grigor Dimitrov and having problems with his elbows, Sinner actually escaped after his opponent from Bulgaria was forced to withdraw due to injury.

The match took place dramatically at the Center Court when Dimitrov impressed and led 6-3, 7-5, 2-2 before falling after making a hard service. The injury forced him to give up in the middle of the match, leaving Sinner, who seemed to sympathize with the side of the field.

"I don't know what to say. He's an amazing and very unlucky player in recent years," said Sinner, who immediately approached Dimitrov who was sitting in tears while receiving medical treatment. If only he could continue playing, he deserved to qualify. I don't consider this a win. This is a sad moment for everyone watching.

Sinner himself admitted that he had been injured on his right elbow since the first game due to slipping on the grass. He said he would undergo an MRI to determine his severity. "We'll see tomorrow. We'll check through MRI to see if this is a serious injury or not," he said.

In the last eight, Sinner will face the 10th seed from the United States, Ben Shelton, who beat Lorenzo Sonego 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(1), 7-5. Meanwhile, another Italian player, Flavio Cobolli, also qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time after defeating Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(4), 7-6(3).

Djokovic And Swiatek Advance

Novak Djokovic still maintains the hope of winning his 25th Grand Slam title after beating Alex de Minaur 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. This is Djokovic's 16th quarter-final at Wimbledon, who is chasing Roger Federer's eight titles, who also watched from the Royal Box.

"We had a chance to greet each other for a while," Djokovic said of his meeting with Federer. He congratulated and praised the match. It was great to see him present.

Belinda Hatic from Switzerland also recorded emotional achievements by reaching the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the first time after nine attempts. He won over Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-6(4), 6-4. Hatec, the gold winner of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, burst into tears after successfully passing through the fourth half just 15 months after giving birth to his daughter Bella.

In the next round, Hatic will face seventh seed from Russia, Mirra Andreeva, who performed brilliantly against Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-3 on her debut at the Center Court.

Iga Swiatek also secured a place in the quarter-finals after overcoming Clara Tauson's 6-4, 6-1 resistance. He will face Liudmila Samsonova who previously won over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 7-5, 7-5.

Wimbledon 2025 is now approaching the climax with many dramatic, emotional, and big surprises stories in each round.
