President Trump Called To Offer Israel-Syria Normalization If Gaza War Ends
JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump opened the possibility of a deal between Israel and Syria in exchange for Israel's approval to end the war in Gaza, Israel's Hayom reported, citing "a source close to the White House."
The report claims that President Trump sent envoys to Damascus today to finalize the Syrian-Israele deal with the US as guarantor, reported The Times of Israel July 8.
However, the report did not name the official or say who they met.
US envoy to Syria Tom Barrack is in Beirut Monday, while Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is in the United Arab Emirates to negotiate an increase in relations with the Gulf.
Earlier on Monday, President Trump's Administration announced the revocation of the status of a foreign terrorist organization for Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a group once linked to Al-Qaeda led by al-Sharaa, which controlled Syria in December 2024.
An Israeli official told The Times of Israel last week that Israel was holding "continued talks" with Syria.
"There really is an aspiration to expand the Abrahamic Agreement, and it's no secret that we want to see Syria in this regard," the official continued.
"And there may be opportunities," he said.
