Presiden Prabowo Mendorong BRICS Jadi Motor Kerja Ekonomi Global South
JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto proposed that BRICS become a motor to provide wider access to the South Global country, affirming Indonesia's position in strengthening the multilateral system and economic cooperation of developing countries.
This was conveyed by President Prabowo during the second session of the 2025 BRICS Summit (KTT) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which discussed the theme "Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic-Financial Affairs, and Artificial Intelligence", Sunday 6 July.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arrmanatha Nasir (Tata), said President Prabowo at this session proposed the initiative "South-South Economic Compact."
According to Deputy Foreign Minister Tata, the proposal aims to ensure that the state of BRICS can become a motor to provide wider access to Global South countries.
"Here the goal is for BRICS countries to become motorbikes to provide wider access to global countries of society for trade, to further integrate their economy to become part and supply chain," said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tata, launching a statement from the BPMI Setpres, Monday, July 7.
Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said that President Prabowo emphasized the importance of reviving multilateralism in the midst of increasingly multipolar world dynamics.
Presiden Prabowo, lanjut Menko Airlangga, juga mendorong penguatan kemitraan ekonomi antara negara-negara Global South, serta memperluas pemanfaatan New Development Bank (NDB).
"This is an economic partnership for developing countries to be very important and it is hoped that the use of the New Development Bank can be increased," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga.

"Indonesia itself has stated its readiness to actively join the NDB," he said.
In addition, this participation is important so that Indonesia can access development financing in line with the green transformation agenda and sustainable economic growth.
"Kita tahu dilaporkan tadi dalam New Development Bank itu ada beberapa proyek yang sedang ditangani antara lain clean energy project, kemudian infrastruktur, kemudian juga beberapa proyek yang terkait dengan sustainability dan green. Saat sekarang ditangani 120 proyek dan nilainya sekitar 39 billion," tandasnya.
