Monday Opened The Rupiah To Slightly Weaken To Rp15,470 Per US Dollar

JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate on the spot market weakened slightly on Monday 20 April trading. The rupiah weakened 0.03 percent or 5 points to a level of Rp15,470 per US dollar.

Head of Research at Monex Investindo Futures, Ariston Tjendra, said the positive sentiment from the US and European markets on Friday could be a position sentiment for the Asian market this Monday.

"The positive sentiment is due to the plan of some European countries and the US to open lockdowns to reactivate the economy because the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in these countries has started to slope," explained Ariston to VOI.

In addition, he continued, the market is also optimistic about the progress of research on drugs for treating patients with a virus produced by the US Biopharmaceutical company, Gilead Science.

"This positive sentiment can encourage the strengthening of risk assets, including the rupiah," he said.

Ariston predicts that the rupiah today will move in the range of Rp. 15,300-15,550 per US dollar.
