Neuer's Criticism Of Donnarumma That Caused Severe Injury Musiala

Bayern Munich said Jamal Musiala faced a long recovery from his left broken leg after colliding with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, in the 2025 Club World Cup quarter-finals, Saturday, July 5, 2025 WIB.

Bayern Munich reported a day after the incident that Musiala had flown back from Florida to Munich for surgery for her injuries when she lost to PSG 0-2.

The Bundesliga club said doctors found Musiala had a fracture of a fibula (bone in the lower leg) associated with an ankle dislocation.

"This serious injury and absence of players for a long time really came as a surprise to Jamal and all of us."

"Jamal has just recovered from injury and will be out for a long time. He will get everything he needs from us."

"We will support him intensively, be by his side, and can't wait to see him return to the pitch," Bayern Munich Council member Max Eberl said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer criticized Donnarumma for his tackle.

"Situation where you don't have to enter like that. It's risky. He is willing to accept the risk of injuring his opponent."

"I approached him and said, do you not want to approach our players? It is fitting for him to come and wish him all the best."

"He ended up doing it. Justice was always important. I would react differently," Neuer said of Donnarumma at Sky Sports Germany.

Donnarumma then uploaded a photo of himself on Instagram that looked desperate after the injury, accompanied by a message for Musiala.

"All my prayers and good wishes accompany you," wrote the Italian goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Die Bavaria coach Vincent Kompany regretted the incident considering that Musiala was one of its pillars.

"It doesn't look good. If I only look at the picture, it looks like an ankle injury, but I'm not going to make a diagnosis here."

"When I sat here next to you now, the thing that makes my blood still boil at this time is not the result."

"I understand this is football, but the fact is this happens to someone who really enjoys this game. He is also very important to us," said Vincent Kompany.

Musiala, a 22-year-old player who also played for the German National Team, entered the match on Saturday with three goals in the tournament, one goal behind gold Boot leaders Angel Di Maria and Marcos Leonardo.

Goals at the 2025 Club World Cup have increased the number of goals to 20 this season, including 12 goals in the Bundesliga and three goals in the Champions League.

Musiala's injury occurred shortly before halftime. The referee blew the whistle for a break when the midfielder received treatment in the field.

Serge Gnabry replaced him in the line-up to start the second half, with a score of 0-0 at that time.

PSG players give full support to Musiala.

"We told him that we supported him because it was never easy when an action like this ended badly."

"That's also part of football. Now we want everything to go well for Jamal in his rehabilitation," said Desire Doue, PSG's first goalscorer.

PSG defender Achraf Hakimi also provided motivation.

"First of all, I would like to express my support to Musiala. It is a difficult part for us in today's match."

"We know this is part of the sport, but we want to convey a message of support to him. We support him and want to see him return to the field soon because he is a great player," he said.

Musiala is a rising star, earning the title of Best Player of the Year for the German National Team in 2024. He is also runner-up in 2023 for the Golden Boy award, which was awarded to Europe's brightest U-21 talent.

Musiala debuted for Bayern Munich in 2020 when he was 17 years old, becoming the team's youngest player on his debut.

In 2022, he will be the first teenager to appear for Germany at the World Cup since 1958.

Due to the injury, Bayern Munich may have to start next season without Musiala.

The Bundesliga club has lost Florian Wirtz who prefers to move to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer market so Bayern Munich lacks attacking midfielders.

"I don't know, the idea to replace (his) now. We played against PSG, and we played great."

"So, we will do our job in the future," said Eberl.
