Surya Biru Murni Acetylene Captures Gold Opportunities In East Kalimantan

JAKARTA The economic growth of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) which reached 4.08 percent in the first quarter of 2025 is a positive signal for the business world, including PT Surya Biru Murni Acetylene Tbk (SBMA).

Meanwhile, in the midst of the dominance of the mining sector which contributed more than 35 percent to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) of East Kalimantan, SBMA continues to strategically move in expanding the industrial gas business in this region.

SBMA's Director of Operations, Julianto Setyoadji, revealed that the company is currently successfully strengthening its position in the Central Kalimantan mining sector by successfully extending the industrial gas service contract for the first three months worth almost IDR 1 billion.

"Customers' trust continues to increase as our service quality and gas applications excel," he said in a statement, quoted Monday, July 7.

Julianto said that not only the mining sector, SBMA's expansion also targets the medical sector in South Kalimantan which shows a positive response.

"The need for medical gas in this area is estimated to reach 100 tons per month. This is a strategic market that we are working on seriously," he said.

He conveyed that SBMA also noted promising market potential in the chemical industry sector such as fertilizer and paper factories, with a monthly sales value of more than IDR 100 million on average.

In addition, Julianto said that the shipyard sector in East Kalimantan contributed to an increase in demand for oxygen gas by up to 10 percent.

According to him, the company is also exploring strategic cooperation with several big names in the energy and mining sectors such as Petrosea, Adaro, and the oil and gas sector, with a superior service approach and improving the quality of human resources.

"Geopolitical factors are certainly a consideration, but a service excellence-based approach is the key to our progress," he explained.

Julianto conveyed that with a long-term target, SBMA is targeting an increase in profitability of more than 15 percent of total sales by 2026.

According to him, this effort is supported by a business diversification strategy through recycling production products into useful products such as paving blocks, as a form of efficiency and contribution to environmental sustainability.

He added that with East Kalimantan's contribution which reached almost 47 percent of the economy on the island of Kalimantan, SBMA is optimistic that sustainable business expansion in this region will have a positive impact not only on companies, but also on industrial growth as a whole.
