Qualcomm Cancels Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 2nm Chip Made By Samsung

JAKARTA - Qualcomm has reportedly canceled the 2nm version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chipset production plan that was supposed to be produced by Samsung. This advanced variant was previously rumored to be used in several Samsung Galaxy S26 models, but has now been removed from the official specification list. Instead, the majority of the next-generation Android flagship phones will most likely use the 3nm version made by TSMC.

News about the possibility of Samsung producing a 2nm version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip was once a hot topic among tech observers. This variant is believed to be more sophisticated than the 3nm version and will probably be used on a limited basis for the Galaxy S26 variant in certain areas.

However, according to a recent report from trusted tipser @Jukanlosreve on the X/Twitter platform, Qualcomm has now canceled Samsung's plan to produce 2nm chips. The variant no longer appears in internal specifications, signaling that the project is discontinued.

Previously, in Qualcomm's internal list, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chipset (with model number SM8850) had two variants based on its manufacturer. The TSMC-made 3nm variant is labeled 8850-T, while the 2nm version of Samsung is labeled 8850-S. But now, only the basic SM8850 model remains, most likely referring to TSMC's 3nm chip.

The termination of this project means that almost all Android flagship phones that will be released from the end of 2025 will use TSMC's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 with 3nm technology. Qualcomm itself has not provided an official explanation regarding the reasons behind this decision, so all speculations that have emerged cannot be confirmed.

Meanwhile, there is no less interesting follow-up news from the same source. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 (SM8850) prototype is now said to have increased prices to USD 15,000 for companies looking to get them. In addition, future chip specifications with the SM8845 code "most likely Snapdragon 8s Gen 5" are also being reviewed by Qualcomm. This chip is predicted to be a more affordable version of flagship.

Samsung's 2nm chip for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 will certainly be a major attraction in the world of mobile technology. Unfortunately, the plan now seems to have run aground. For now, the 3nm variant of TSMC remains the mainstay for high-end Android devices in future generations.
