KPAI Highlights Case Of 5-Year-Old Boy Died Of Power In Deep Radio Park, South Jakarta

JAKARTA - A 5-year-old boy was found dead from being electrocuted in a playground, the Radio Dalam area, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta on Saturday (05/06/2025).

The victim was found face down with a black body suspected of being caused by an electric shock. Near the victim's body there was an electric pole.

The incident received the spotlight from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI). KPAI invites all parties to see the locations of public facilities such as open parks to get more attention, care and strict security from park officials.

"Regarding spatial planning, playgrounds and their allocations, what must be seen again. Because if this issue is let to sleep, aka silence, then it is possible that the next victim will be our children. So in this incident, it is important that various alleged causes are developed and become a concern," said Deputy Chairperson of KPAI, Jasra Putra in his statement to VOI, Sunday (06/07/2025).

KPAI will pick up the ball to ensure the safety of electric poles in a number of areas in the area, especially those in direct contact with children's playgrounds.

"I've seen dangerous situations, cables that haven't been noticed for a long time. So nothing has touched. Like an optical FO (optical fiber) cable attached to the pole of the PLN pole by tugging down and not paying attention for a long time. Or when stepping on the electric pole area out of the stun power, it has also happened," he said.

Jasra emphasized that child protection is part of special protection and care. This means that all threats around children should be reduced, so there is a term environmental conditions that determine the child's situation.

"So it is important that the environment creates a common development and growth space for children, both physically, mentally, and socially. Indonesia has a special law on children, because it is necessary to realize justice, when it comes to children," he said.

Regarding this, Jasra said that KPAI cannot fulfill it on its own, so that local governments and governments have an obligation to provide child protection until 18 years.

"But if this enforcement of justice is not carried out through the Regional Government, the Regional Head can be charged with Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Amendments to the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection (hereafter referred to as the Child Protection Law), it states that the implementation of child protection as a whole includes special protection," he said.

Jasra further said that child protection in order to ensure the fulfillment of children's rights is an effort to protect all children without exception by the state including the government and local governments in formulating and implementing policies.

"In the Child Protection Act, it enjoys special protection, and will be given the opportunity and facilities. In enacting the law for this purpose, the best interests of children are the main considerations," he explained.

Meanwhile, regarding the death of a 5-year-old boy in the play park in the Radio Dalam area, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, KPAI assessed that there was a phenomenon of child neglect.

"So that we experience events that must be borne, what is actually inappropriate must be borne by children aged 5 years. That's why we have Government Regulations on Children Need Special Protection," he said.
