Mobile Clinic For Delman Horses Operates In Jakarta, This Is The Goal

JAKARTA - Horses are one of the animals that is often used as a worker animal, to help with various human works. The horses that are used as workers should be given good and correct care.

However, the care of working horses is often overlooked and causes horses to experience various health problems. One of the health problems that is often encountered in working horses such as those in Jakarta is malnutrition or imbalance in nutritional intake.

"There are many horses whose mouths are cut off because of the way they handle their mouths, are hung, they are often in their mouths and cut off. There are also those who are malnourished, some are injured which are usually caused by their equipment (not good)," said the CEO & Founder of the JAAN Domestic Foundation, Karin Franken, when met in the Kemanggisan area, West Jakarta, on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

According to Franken, the problem with the horse can actually be overcome easily, namely by prior education about horse care to the parties who use working horses. The education starts from how to treat the horse properly, to the welfare of the horse properly.

The understanding of the need for horses, because actually a lot of suffering occurs, there is no need to deal with it. Starting from how to treat the horse, don't be rude, the daily handling must be educated a lot, explain the welfare of horses in general, and how horses should be handled," he explained.

In addition to education, horse health care must also be very much considered. As the JAAN Domestic Foundation and the Lady Freethinker Foundation have done, by launching the first Delman Mobile Horse Clinic Car in Indonesia.

The car clinic for horses aims to reach the horse wagon community most in need, provide free health services for all wagon horses, as well as provide people with better animal care education.

Not only that, the car clinic for horse care is also equipped with tetanus vaccines and other medical equipment. The car clinic has started operating on July 3, 2025 with a main focus in Jakarta to deal with various horse health problems.

"We handle anything, from big to small problems, we all help. If for example it's really bad, we'll work with our veterinarian," Karin continued.

This program also received support from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia. It is hoped that this collaboration can improve animal health while at the same time supporting the welfare of the community.

Programs like this are very important to improve animal welfare in Indonesia. We at the Ministry of Agriculture fully support collaborative efforts like this, which not only improve animal health but also support the welfare of the community," concluded drh. Hastho Yulianto, MM, Coordinator of Animal Welfare of the Veterinary Public Health Directorate, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia.
