Basarnas Deploys 9 Ships To Search 38 Passengers Of The Tunu Pratama Jaya Ship That Sank

Basarnas deployed nine SAR ships to search for dozens of KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya passengers who drowned in the waters of the Bali Strait.

The ship previously departed from Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi to Gilimanuk Harbor, Bali before finally sinking on Wednesday (2/7) night voyage.

Head of the Surabaya SAR Office Nanang Sigit in Jakarta, Thursday, said that the search operation was carried out with a joint team of Basarnas officers, TNI/Polri and other potential marine SARs by deploying nine ships.

Basarnas confirmed that as of 08.00 WIB, 23 passengers were found safe and four people died. All the victims who were successfully evacuated were immediately taken to the nearest hospital.

"Some of the survivors boarded a scheme and some were assisted by other ships passing by. Currently, the conditions at the scene are quite conducive even though the sea waves are still quite high," said Nanang as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 3.

According to him, the survivors were temporarily handled by the joint SAR team with ASDP at Gilimanuk Harbor. Meanwhile, the search for 38 other people who are still missing continues by expanding the search area.

"If today has not been found, then the search will be expanded again according to the operation plan. The current weather is good enough to support the search," he said.

KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya reportedly sank at 23.35 WIB, approximately 40 minutes after sailing from Ketapang Port at 22:56 WIB.

The manifest data states that the ship carried 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles.

Nanang added that Basarnas had also provided recommendations to the Ketapang-Gilimanuk ASDP to increase vigilance and maximize shipping safety on the crossing.
