Can Be Fatal, Don't Remove This Folder From Windows Computer

JAKARTA There are many important folders on Windows computers that you shouldn't have deleted. One of the folders that you might want to delete is an empty inetpub folder on the installation drive.

Although it looks useless, this folder is actually very crucial. Inetpub is related to important security updates from Microsoft so that this folder will affect the security of your device if removed.

Reporting from How to Geek, the inetpub folder is related to the Internet Information Service (IIS) which helps developers in hosting websites or applications in Windows. If IIS is enabled, this folder will have a sub-folder in it.

The sub-folder contains history, log, temp, and others. However, if a sub-folder has appeared in it, a number of users may think that the folder is important and won't delete it.

An empty inetpub folder is known to appear after the KB5055523 security update for Windows 11 and KB505518 for Windows 10. Although the IIS service is not enabled, this folder does not appear due to any bugs or glitches.

Microsoft has clarified that the inetpublic folder was deliberately created as part of the process of handling the CVE-2025-202120 security vulnerability. This vulnerability is related to the Windows Process Elevation service.

CVE-2025-21204 is a very serious form of vulnerability. This vulnerability needs to be overcome because unauthorized agents can exploit symlinks to increase their permits. With higher permission, file management operations can be manipulated using a stack of Windows services

Therefore, Microsoft created an inetpublic folder to prevent malicious exploitation. So, even if it looks empty and useless, never remove the inetpublic folder from your device.
