Speedboat Overturned In Maluku, UGM Student Dies, One Other Still Wanted
JAKARTA - Gadjah Mada University (UGM) confirmed that one student who was participating in the Real Community Empowerment Learning Learning (KKN-PPM) program died in a speedboat incident in the waters of Debut, Southeast Maluku.
UGM Director of Community Service (DPKM) Rustamadji said the victim was on behalf of Septian Eka Rahmadi, a student of the Information Technology Bachelor Program, Department of Electronic Engineering and Information Technology, Faculty of UGM Engineering.
"We lost a young person who was full of potential and enthusiasm. May the deceased have the best place by His side, and the family will be given courage," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 1.
Septian is part of the KKN-PPM Manyeuw Unit, Southeast Maluku.
According to Rustamadji, Septian is known as an intelligent, modest, and highly committed person in the process of learning and serving the community.
"His departure brings deep sorrow, not only for his family and friends but also for his colleagues at the KKN-PPM," said Rustamadji.
The incident occurred when seven KKN students along with five local residents took sand on Wahru Island for the Karang Reef Reef Revitalization program using the Artificial Patch Reef (APR) method.
They departed in two speedboats at 11:00 WIT.
On the way back, one of the fast motorboats capsized due to tidal waves and strong winds.
According to him, as many as five students managed to survive, one died, and the other is still being searched.
"So far, we have continued to carry out maximum coordination efforts in the rescue and search process for victims who have not been found," said Rustamadji.

UGM through DPKM and related faculties, he said, is coordinating with the Regent and the ranks of the Southeast Maluku Regency Government, Maluku Province, as well as the Maluku Gadjah Mada University (Kagama) Alumni Family to ensure emergency handling, as well as providing assistance and support for affected students.
"UGM is coordinating intensively between field supervisors (DPL), Kagama, and local partners, providing psychological and logistical support for the student team, as well as facilitating the return of bodies to their area of origin with university assistance," said Rustamadji.
