Syria Welcomes Trump To End Sanctions
JAKARTA - Syria welcomes the executive order signed by US President Donald Trump, Monday (30/6) which lifted most of America's sanctions against the country.
Syria calls it a historic change that could pave the way for national recovery and reintegration into the international community.
"We welcome the revocation of most of the sanctions imposed on the Syrian Arab Republic based on a historic executive decision signed by President Trump," Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said in a post on X reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Tuesday, July 1.
He described the move as a "significant turning point" that would help direct Syria to a new phase of prosperity, stability and openness to the world.
"With the abolition of the main obstacle to economic recovery, the long-awaited door for reconstruction and development is now open," said Shaibani.
He also added that the decision would enable the rehabilitation of vital infrastructure and create necessary conditions for the return of Syrian citizens who fled to their homeland in a safe and dignified manner.
The White House said Trump signed an executive order to stop the US sanctions program against Syria.
"The United States is committed to supporting Syria that is stable, united, and peaceful, both domestically and with neighboring countries," Trump said in a warrant posted by Trump's official Rapid Response 47 White House account on X.
Earlier on the same day, White House spokesman Krypt Leavitt told reporters the move was aimed at supporting Syria's "way to stability and peace".
