Siri Reshuffled, Apple Secretly Approaches OpenAI And Anthropic!

JAKARTA - Apple Inc is considering using Anthropic (AI) artificial intelligence (AI) technology to support the latest version of Siri's virtual assistant, replacing their own internal artificial models. This was reported by Bloomberg News on Monday, June 30.

The iPhone manufacturer's shares, which fell at the start of trading, closed up 2% on Monday.

According to the report, Apple has held discussions with the two companies to use their big language model (LLM) to run a new version of Siri. Apple also requested that these models be specially trained to run in Apple's cloud infrastructure for testing purposes, citing sources familiar with the talks.

However, Apple's investigation into the use of this third-party model is still in its early stages and no final decision has yet been made.

Amazon-backed Anthrop refused to comment, while Apple and OpenAI did not respond to requests for comment from Reuters.

In March 2025, Apple announced that an increase in AI's capabilities for Siri would be postponed until 2026, without giving any reason for the delay.

Apple is also reshuffling its executive ranks to restore focus on AI development after months of delays. Mike Rockwell was appointed to lead Siri's project, after Apple CEO Tim Cook lost confidence in AI division chief John Giannandrea in directing product development, according to a Bloomberg report in March.

At the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this month, Apple puts more emphasis on a gradual development that can improve daily life such as a live translation feature for phone calls rather than big ambitions in the AI field as its competitors carry.

Apple's head of software division, Craig Federighi, also said that Apple is opening their basic AI model for third-party developers to use, and the company will offer code-fixing tools both from Apple itself and from OpenAI in their primary developer software.
