Iran Ready To Continue Negotiations After Received US Guarantee It Will Not Attack Again
JAKARTA - Iran is ready to resume negotiations on its nuclear program with the United States after receiving assurance Washington will not carry out another attack, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.
Negotiated with Washington as soon as he received assurances that the US would no longer attack, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
"I don't think negotiations will restart that quickly. So we can decide to get involved again, we have to first make sure America will not target us again in military attacks during negotiations," Foreign Minister AragCHI told CBS News, as quoted by TASS July 1.
Foreign Minister Araghchi said this in response to the question of whether Tehran and Washington would hold negotiations this week.
"And I think with all these considerations, we still need more time (to make decisions)," he said.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said on June 25, the two countries would hold negotiations on nuclear next week (this week).
On June 25, President Donald Trump announced the United States and Iran would hold nuclear talks the following week. Later, NBC News on June 28 reported that US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff would hold consultations with Iranian representatives in the coming days regarding a possible nuclear program agreement.
According to the TV channel, the talks will discuss discontinuing Iran's uranium enrichment in exchange for easing US sanctions.
Iranian authorities have repeatedly stated they will never abandon the development of a peaceful nuclear program, which includes uranium enrichment.
According to Foreign Minister Araghchi, during a 12-day armed conflict with Israel, Iran "shows and proves we have the ability to defend ourselves, and we will continue to do so if any aggression is launched against us."
When asked if it was possible to resolve the conflict with the US peacefully, Iran's Foreign Minister noted "dislomacy gates will never be tightly closed."
"No one can destroy technology and science for enrichment through bombing. If there is a will from our side, and that will be there once again to make progress in this industry, we will be able to immediately repair the damage and make up for the lost time," said Foreign Minister Aragghchi.
Iran's top diplomat also said, "the country's peaceful nuclear program has turned into a matter of national pride and glory."
