Polda Metro Named 9 Suspects Of The Hardiknas Protest

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has named nine suspects in the National Education Day (Hardiknas) demonstration at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud-Ristek).

"We have named nine people as suspects with their respective roles," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters quoted by Antara, May 4.

Yusri explained that not all of the suspects were students. Some of them are laborers and unemployed.

"Of the nine, if I'm not mistaken, there are four or five of them because there are students who admit it, but they are actually workers," he added.

Even though they were named suspects, Polda Metro Jaya did not detain the nine people.

The nine suspects were not detained due to the threat of imprisonment of only four months as stipulated in Articles 216 and 218 of the Criminal Code.

Previously, a number of people held a demonstration at the National Education Day at the Ministry of Education and Culture-Research and Technology Building, Sunday, May 2.

The demonstration was then forcibly dispersed by the police because it had gone on beyond the time limit stipulated by law.
