Three Former FPI Makassar Leaders Arrested By Densus 88 Anti-terror
JAKARTA - Densus 88 Anti-terror Police arrested three former FPI officials in Makassar, South Sulawesi. This arrest is suspected to be related to the suicide at the Cathedral Gejera some time ago.
"Yes, that's right, handled directly by the Densus Headquarters," South Sulawesi Police Chief Inspector General Merdisyam told VOI, Tuesday, May 4.
However, Merdisyam did not specify the location of the arrest. It's just that, based on information from the three former FPI officials, AR, MU and AS.
In addition, Densus 88 Anti-terror Police Headquarters together with the South Sulawesi Police team also searched the former headquarters of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) organization, on Jalan Sungai Limboto, Ujung Pandang District, Makassar City, South Sulawesi.
A number of items were secured by officers, such as a brown cardboard box, a nameplate, and a red plastic package including a banner bearing the FPI logo and name.
Head of Public Relations of the South Sulawesi Regional Police, Kombes E Zulpan, confirmed the search at the former FPI Makassar Secretariat.
The search was related to a network of suicide bombings carried out by a husband and wife at the Makassar Cathedral on Sunday, March 28, 2021.
"It is true, there was a search. It was related to the development of a suicide bombing in the Cathedral Church, as well as a study group at Villa Mutiara Biru over the arrest of 20 people earlier this year, including the confessions of several suspects who had been previously arrested," said Zulpan.
He said there were suspects who admitted to being betrayed by Munarman, the former General Secretary of the FPI who was arrested some time ago, as well as the development of the extent to which the suspect was connected and involved with the organization that was dismissed by the government.
There is a confession that one person was arrested from several people who have already been secured. This was adopted by Munarman some time ago, as well as the extent to which it was related to the bomb incident at the Makassar Cathedral Church, "said Zulpan.
