Densus 88 Search Ex-FPI Makassar Headquarters, Bringing One Confiscated Cardboard

MAKASSAR - The Special Detachment 88 Anti-terror Team of the Police Headquarters together with the South Sulawesi Police team searched the former headquarters of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) organization, on Jalan Sungai Limboto, Ujung Pandang District, Makassar City, South Sulawesi.

A number of items were secured by officers, such as a brown cardboard box, a nameplate, and a red plastic package including a banner bearing the FPI logo and name.

Head of Public Relations of the South Sulawesi Regional Police, Kombes E Zulpan, confirmed the search at the former FPI Makassar Secretariat.

The search was related to a network of suicide bombings carried out by a husband and wife at the Makassar Cathedral on Sunday, March 28, 2021.

"It is true, there was a search. It was related to the development of a suicide bombing in the Cathedral Church, as well as a study group at Villa Mutiara Biru over the arrest of 20 people earlier this year, including the confessions of several suspects who had been previously arrested," Zulpan said as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 4th.

He said there were suspects who admitted to being betrayed by Munarman, the former General Secretary of the FPI who was arrested some time ago, as well as the development of the extent to which the suspect was connected and involved with the organization that was dismissed by the government.

"There is a confession of one person who was arrested from several people who have already been arrested. That was taken by Munarman some time ago, and the extent to which it was developed related to the bomb incident at the Makassar Cathedral Church," said Zulpan.

However, Zulpan did not specify the items that were secured during the search at the former FPI Makassar Headquarters, because all authority rests with Densus 88 Anti-terror to provide information.
