Companies Asked For Commitment To Improve Worker Welfare

JAKARTA - BPJS Ketenagakerjaan continues to strengthen its commitment to improving workers' welfare through comprehensive social protection programs.

Head of the Jakarta Employment BPJS Branch Office, Grogol Multanti, explained that this activity was not only a reminder of administrative compliance, but also a moment to encourage collective awareness of the importance of comprehensive protection for workers, including those in the informal sector.

"We want companies not only to pay dues, but also to actively convey program information to their workers, including workers in the non-formal sector. They are also entitled to social protection," said Multanti.

He added that the benefits of additional services provided by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan can currently help workers access home financing with a scheme that is light, flexible, and affordable.

Meanwhile, the Head of the West Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration and Energy Sub-dept., Jackson Dianrus Sitorus, emphasized the importance of collaborative roles between companies, local governments, and BPJS Employment in expanding the reach of labor protection.

Jackson gave an example of a case in Meruya Village, where 1,200 residents received social security protection for working in a state-owned company.

When a disaster occurred, the heirs of the workers received compensation of up to a total of almost Rp. 500 million.

This is clear evidence that BPJS Employment protection is not just a formality. There are guarantees, there are death benefits, even scholarships for children who are left to college. This is a form of state alignment with workers and their families," Jackson explained.

In addition, participants are also advised to regularly update data through the Jamsostek Mobile (JMO) application to ensure smooth benefits.

"We invite all to continue updating company data and to continue to use the JMO application to make it easier for workers. We urge companies to be able to coordinate the updating of participant data collectively," said Multanti.

In his presentation, BPJS acknowledged that the use of the benefits of additional services, especially in the form of housing financing, was still relatively low.

In fact, continued Multanti, this program is designed to encourage workers to have decent houses, either through mortgage facilities, house renovations, or credit transfers (takeovers).

"There are still many workers who do not know that they can renovate their homes or take mortgages with the help of facilities from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, even though the process is easy." said Multanti.

In the closing session, the speakers agreed that the expansion of the coverage of protection, including for non-wage workers (BPU), was the direction of future strategic policies.

With a collective social approach, it is hoped that the community around the company, even domestic workers, can also be protected.

"If each of us can recruit one person from the surrounding environment as an independent participant, then we will help accelerate the achievement of universal coverage of social security," concluded Multanti.
