Iran Tombs IRGC Commander And Military Officer Killed In Israeli Attack

JAKARTA - Iran on Sunday held a funeral for the late Lieutenant General Hossein Salami and a number of senior military senior officials who died as a result of the Israeli attack.

The former commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who was killed in the Israeli attack on June 13 was buried in the Shah-Abdol-Azim Cemetery Complex in Shahr-e Reym, south of Tehran which was attended by thousands of people, quoted from the Tasnim News Agency June 30.

Israel launched airstrikes targeting Iran's nuclear facilities and military facilities in Operation "Raising Lion" on June 13.

More than 600 people were reportedly killed in attacks that continued for 11 days, including senior military officials, nuclear scientists, and civilians.

Another senior IRGC official buried in the same location as Lt. Gen. Salami is Brigadier General Masoud Shanei, quoted from IRNA.

The funeral of the two was attended by Ali Larijani and Mohammad Mokhber, adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Meanwhile, IRGC Air Force Commander Major General Amir Ali Hajizadeh and Missile Forces Commander Major General Mahmoud Bagheri were buried in Behesht-e Zahra in Tehran.

Today, Iran is planning to hold a funeral for the Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters Lieutenant General Gholamali Rashid in his hometown of Dezful.

As for the replacement funeral, Lieutenant General Ali Shadmani was held in his hometown, Hamedan was held yesterday.

Lieutenant General Shadmani was appointed by Ayatollah Khamenei to replace Lt. Gen. Rashid. However, both eventually died as a result of an Israeli attack.

Earlier, the funeral of the late Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Mohammad Baqeri was held on Saturday, after funeral processions for 60 people who died in Israeli aggression.

Israel launched a three-day aggression ahead of the planned negotiations between Iran and the US over Tehran's peaceful nuclear program.

The US then attacked three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan on June 22.

Iran responded to Israeli and US attacks targeting military facilities, including bases of US troops in Qatar. After 12 days, the escalation ended with the announcement of a ceasefire on June 24.
