IBC: Majority Of Electric Vehicle Battery Purchases From Domestic
JAKARTA - President Director of Indonesia Battery Corporation Toto Nugroho said that the majority of off-takers or buyers of electric vehicle (EV) batteries produced in Karawang, West Java came from within the country.
"So, there are already several direct off-takers. Many are in Indonesia," Toto said when met after the Groundbreaking of the Electric Vehicle Battery Industry Ecosystem Project Integrated by the ANTAM-IBC-CBL Consortium in the Artha Industrial Hills (AIH) area, in Karawang, West Java, quoted by Antara, Monday, June 30.
Toto has not been able to reveal who will be the buyer of the EV battery produced in Karawang, because it is still at the stage of the agreement with CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited).
Not only targeting the domestic market, but EV batteries that will be produced in Karawang will also be exported to a number of countries, such as Japan, India, and the United States. The European continent has not yet become the Indonesian EV battery market.
"If we look at the current conditions, around 30 percent are exported. However, it will definitely change from year to year," said Toto.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia who accompanied President Prabowo at the inauguration said that the EV battery factory in Karawang could produce batteries with a capacity of 15 GWh.
This figure, if converted into an electric car, can provide power for 250 thousand 300 thousand electric cars.
Not only building electric batteries for EVs, but Bahlil also projects the area to build a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The BESS will later be used to store electrical energy from solar panels.
