Floods Submerge 103 Heads Of Families In Kendari, BPBD Establishes 3 Refugee Command Posts

The floods caused by heavy rains hit the Wanggu River area, Lepo-Lepo Village, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra). The local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded as many as 402 people or 103 families (KK) affected by this disaster.

Head of BPBD Kendari City, Bajul Padang, said that the flood inundated a resident's house with a water level of 180 centimeters. The affected residents were spread over four Neighborhood Units (RT), namely RT 01, 10, 12, and 14.

"The high rainfall in the last few days has caused flooding in almost all areas of Kendari City, with the worst impact occurring in Wanggu River," saidOKes when met in Kendari, Antara, Sunday, June 29.

To help the victims, BPBD established three evacuation posts supported by the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), BPBD of Southeast Sulawesi Province, and BPBD of Kendari City. The evacuation tents were specially opened in the Kali Wanggu area, which became the focus point for handling because the number of victims was quite large.

In addition to providing refugee camps, BPBD also prepares ready-to-eat supplies for the refugees so that they don't have to bother cooking during the evacuation period.

"Hopefully the weather will improve soon, so that the affected residents can return to their homes in the near future," saidOK.

The flood that hit Kali Wanggu was also followed by landslides in several other areas in Kendari City, so that handling and assistance continued to be intensified to ensure the safety and needs of victims were met.
