Thousands Of People SIGNing Kanye West's Rejection Petition Appears At Slovakia's Largest Rap Festival

JAKARTA - The controversy Kanye West often displays resulted in his rejection when he was lined up to become the main star for Slovakia's largest rap festival, Rubicon, which will be held in Bratislava on 18-20 July.

A petition emerged to deny the 48-year-old rapper's presence, which has been signed by more than 5,000 people.

The petition calls for the rapper to be removed from the list of artists who will appear at the festival. They think West has been "repeated many times and has openly embraced symbols and [a] ideology associated with the darkest period in modern global history".

It was also mentioned that the planned appearance was "an insult to historical memory, the breeding of wartime violence, and an insult to all victims of the Nazi regime".

The petition further states that Bratislava cannot accept West's presence because of his dangerous public attitude and is directly against European memory and historical responsibility.

Meanwhile, Kanye West's latest controversy occurred on May 8, on the 80th anniversary of Germany's Nazi defeat in the Second World War where the rapper released a song called Heil Hitler.

Earlier this year, he was also charged with discrimination and accused of sending text messages "Hail Hitler" to Jewish Yeezy employees.

Then in February, he also removed his Yeezy site, leaving only a white shirt with a large swastika symbol on the chest available for sale.

In response to the petition, organizer Rubicon said in a statement that West had made unacceptable statements about the Jewish community and disturbing historical references, but the rapper had removed his comments, publicly apologized, and admitted that he needed time for self-reflection and professional assistance.

"We believe that festival visitors have the right to see one of the most influential artists of our time directly not because of their past, but because of their music, vision, and strength to inspire," concluded the organizer.
