The Ministry Of Finance Calls The Implementation Of E-Commerce Trade Taxes Not New

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) said that the implementation of income tax levies (PPh) 22 traders in electronic commerce (e-commerce) is not a new policy.

Director General of Economic and Fiscal Strategy (DJSEF) of the Ministry of Finance Febrio Kacaribu in Jakarta, Saturday said that the levies had previously been widely applied on various platforms such as Google, Netflix and so on. Through this policy, his party wants to increase partnerships with e-commerce as tax collection.

"So this is not a new tax, this is a tax as it is," he said.

Febrio said that in this policy, e-commerce traders who earn less than IDR 500 million in one year are not subject to levies.

Furthermore, according to him, this policy is an effort by his party to make administrative improvements to be more obedient in paying taxes.

"Of course this reform will be part of the annual revenue target," he said.

Previously, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) of the Ministry of Finance opened its voice regarding the planned income tax levy (PPh) of 22 traders in electronic commerce (E comerses and Public Relations of DJP Rosmauli in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday (26/6) explained that the plan to appoint a marketplace (marketplace) as a collection of PPh 22 for merchant transactions in Trade Through Electronic Systems (PMSE) basically regulates shifts (shifting).

If previously the PPh payment mechanism was carried out independently by online traders, it would be changed to a tax collection system carried out by the local market as the appointed party.

"This policy does not change the basic principle of income tax, but instead provides convenience for traders in fulfilling tax obligations, because the tax payment process is carried out through a simpler and integrated collection system with the platform where they sell," said Rosmauli.
