Germany Orders Apple And Google To Remove DeepSek From Its App Store
JAKARTA Germany is the next country to ban DeepSek from operating. Regulators in the country have ordered Apple and Google to remove DeepSek from their app stores.
The order was issued because Germany's highest data protection regulator was concerned about data privacy issues. According to Federal Commissioner Berlin Meike Camp, DeepSek failed to guarantee they did not illegally transfer user data to China.
"DeepSeek has not been able to provide convincing evidence to my agency that German user data is protected in China at the same level as those in the European Union," Camp said.
Before regulators ordered Apple and Google to remove DeepSek from its platform, they had asked DeepSek to meet data transfer requirements in the European Union (EU). Otherwise, DeepSek should voluntarily withdraw its app.
However, until the order was issued, DeepSek did not follow up on the German regulator's request. Therefore, they took tougher steps, namely removing DeepSek from Germany's two largest app stores.
This isn't the first time DeepSeek has been banned from operating due to data security issues. Previously, the AI platform was also blocked from South Korea due to user content retrieval issues for third-party companies in China.
DeepSek also admitted that the application stores user commands, all uploaded files, to other personal data on their servers in China.
Therefore, many countries question its safety, including Germany.
