Internapi Riots In Baubau Prison Triggered By Provocation Of Illegal Benad Smuggling

KENDARI - Head of the Correctional Institution (Kalapas) revealed that the commotion between passengers at the Baubau Class II A Prison was triggered by the provocation of correctional inmates (WBP) who were caught smuggling prohibited objects into the detention block.

Head of Class II A Headquarters Baubau Tubagus M. Chaidir said the commotion of the inmates was an incident some time ago However, only the last few days have spread and gone viral on several social media platforms.

"If I'm not mistaken, it happened on June 17, 2025," said Tubagus.

After the commotion, his party immediately took quick steps to secure the conflicting prisoners, then discussed with the inmates to find a solution so that they would no longer make such a fuss.

"It happened in just 5 minutes (of the commotion). After that, we immediately discussed and immediately recovered the atmosphere at the prison that day," he said.

Based on the results of the investigation, said Tubagus, the commotion began when Class II A Baubau prison officers managed to thwart the smuggling of prohibited objects into the detention block.

At that time, officers arrested a WBP who was the destination of the prohibited object. However, from the results of the interrogation of the WBP, he reported that the prohibited item belonged to his colleague.

"Not receiving it reported, maybe in the end they provoked each other, there was a commotion," said Tubagus.

After the fight, the prison guards immediately secured all inmates involved in the fight, then put them in a detention cell that prisoners place when breaking the rules.
