Government Ensures Electricity Tariffs Don't Rise To Maintain People's Purchasing Power

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has decided that the electricity tariff of PT PLN (Persero) in the third quarter or the July period September 2025 for 13 groups of non-subsidized customers will not change or remain, in order to maintain people's purchasing power.

"To support the momentum of national economic growth, and increase people's purchasing power, as well as industrial competitiveness, the third quarter of 2025 has decided on a fixed tariff, as long as it is not set by the government," said Director General of Electricity Jisman P Hutajulu in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Saturday, June 28.

Jisman further added that the electricity tariff for 24 subsidized customers of PT PLN (Persero) also did not change.

This group includes social customers, poor households, small businesses, small industries, and customers who use electricity for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

"The government hopes that PLN can continue to optimize operational efficiency while maintaining the quality of service to the community and increasing the volume of electricity sales. Thus, the Basic cost of providing electricity (BPP) can be maintained," said Jisman.

In accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 7 of 2024 concerning Electricity Tariffs Provided by PT PLN (Persero), electricity tariff adjustments for non-subsidized customers are made every three months, referring to changes in the realization of macroeconomic parameters, namely the exchange rate, Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and Reference Coal Price (HBA).

The macroeconomic parameters for the third quarter of 2025 refer to the realization of the period February to April 2025.

Cumulatively, these changes in parameters should have led to an increase in tariffs, but the government decided not to increase electricity rates.
