Request For EV Weakening, Hyundai Temporarily Delays Production Of Ioniq 5 And Kona Electric In South Korea

JAKARTA - Bad news came Hyundai Motor Company. The automotive manufacturer from South Korea announced that it was temporarily halting the production of electric vehicles at Ulsan Plant 1.

Hyundai decided to stop operating the factory from June 25 to June 27. The facility is the production base of Ioniq 5 and Kona Electric.

Launching from The Korean Car Blog, Friday, June 27, this is the fourth production cessation of the well-known automotive manufacturer as well as reflecting ongoing challenges amid a slowdown in demand for global electric vehicles.

Previously, the termination of the plant at Ulsan Plant 1 was carried out for four days each month starting from February, March, April, and May this year.

According to an anonymous source, the temporary cessation of operations was due to insufficient production volume, due to the weakening sales of electric vehicles.

In order to tackle the weakening sales of EVs, Hyundai introduced a series of domestic discounts and interest-free financing promotions in Korea in May to stimulate local and foreign sales.

In response to frequent factory closures, union members at the Ulsan Factory called for a new vehicle model allocation to their production lines. Their goal is to secure a more consistent production volume and prevent future work disruptions.
