Hawaiian Airlines Experiences Cyber Attack, Flight Operations Keep Normal

JAKARTA - Hawaiian Airlines confirmed that a number of their information technology (IT) systems were disrupted due to cyber attacks. However, the airline ensures that all flight schedules continue to run normally and safely.

In its official statement on Thursday, June 26, Hawaiian Airlines called this incident a "cyber security incident" affecting part of the company's IT system. Although it was not explained in detail the form of the attack, the term was commonly used in cases of ransomware attacks that paralyzed the victim's computer network until the ransom in cryptocurrency was paid.

"We have taken steps to protect our operations, and all flights are running safely and on schedule," Hawaiian Airlines wrote.

This airline is a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group. Until now, it is not known exactly how widely the impact of the attack was. Interestingly, when contacted for further information, Hawaiian Airlines representatives actually responded through Gmail's email address, not the company's official channel.

Meanwhile, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that their safety office in charge of airline surveillance had established communications with Hawaiian Airlines.

"There is no impact on aviation safety. Airlines continue to operate safely, and we continue to monitor this situation," the FAA said in a statement.

Further developments related to the motive, perpetrator, or potential losses due to this attack are still awaited from the results of ongoing investigations.
