Introducing Sustainable Tourism Since Early Childhood Through Kampung Main In School Holiday Season

JAKARTA - School holidays are not only a time that children are waiting for to relax, but also a strategic moment to introduce the concept of regenerative tourism or regenerative tourism from an early age.

During this holiday moment, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) collaborated with Co-Branding Partners for Indonesia to present Kampung Main.

This is an educational program that combines game, pleasure, and environmental conservation messages with a local and sustainable approach designed to introduce the sustainability values of tourist villages to children and families.

Children, especially the Alpha Generation, who are the next generation of the nation, not only enjoy school holidays, but also gain insight into the importance of protecting the local environment and culture.

Kampung Main is here as an alternative to activities that are not only fun, but also enrich children's knowledge in an interactive and inspiring atmosphere. This activation takes place in five main locations:

Jakarta (Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, 26 '29 June 2025),

Bandung (Kiara Artha Park, 4 July 6, 2025),

Yogyakarta (Pasar Wiguna, Taman Ambarrukmo, 5'6 July 2025),

Surabaya (Kidzania, 11'13 July 2025),

Bali (Secret Garden Village, 11'13 July 2025).

"This holiday moment for school children can be used as a momentum to introduce the public to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in introducing regenerative tourism. Hopefully, when they come to this place, they will also leave something good behind," explained Assistant Deputy for Strategy and Communication in Tourism Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Firnandi Gufron at his press conference at TMII, Thursday, June 26.

Furthermore, one example of implementing the regenerative tourism concept includes community involvement in efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness and manage and handle waste.

The Ministry of Tourism prioritizes waste management and handling in the implementation of the Indonesian Main Co-Branding Village Program in collaboration with the manager of the TMII recreation center.

Director of Operations of TMII, Arie Prasetyo welcomed the collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism to allow children to be involved in efforts to protect the environment and carry out tourism activities in a sustainable manner.

"Taman Mini has a lot of trash cans that we may have tried to sort into three, then we also have a lot of programs to for example dispose of garbage, as well as various other interesting activities for children," said Arie.

A total of 18 Co-Branding partners in Indonesia are actively involved in this activity, bringing the same spirit in raising the issue of waste management (waste management) and waste utilization (waste upcycling), especially in tourist villages.

During the activity, partners invite participants to participate in a series of educational activities such as traditional games, DIY coloring, listening to folklore, photo sessions with the theme of tourist villages, as well as creative recycling training.

Not only that, visitors have the opportunity to get attractive prizes from partners and win holidays to tourist villages through social media content competitions.

Interestingly, Indonesia's art installation from waste such as used bottles, paper, to pieces of cloth is also part of the exhibition, strengthening the message of beauty can be born from caring for the environment.
