Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Visits Indonesia Friday Tomorrow

JAKARTA - Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will make a state visit to Indonesia and meet President Prabowo Subianto on Friday (27/6).

"This visit is part of the commitment of the two countries to strengthen close bilateral relations and has been established for a long time, especially at the highest level of the country's leaders," said a written statement from Wisma Putra as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, June 26.

During the visit, cabinet ministers who will accompany PM Anwar included Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Tengku Zafrul Aziz, and, Minister of Higher Education Zambry Abdul Kadir

Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Minister of Plantation and Commodities Johari Abdul Ghani will also be part of a group of Malaysian PM visits to Indonesia.

According to Wisma Putra, Anwar's visit to Indonesia was to reply to several previous visits by President Prabowo to Malaysia in the context of state visits and to attend the ASEAN agenda.

Presiden Prabowo sebelumnya menghadiri KTT ASEAN ke-46, KTT ASEAN-GCC (Dewan Kerja Sama Teluk) ke-2, dan KTT ASEAN-GCC-China pertama yang kemuanya digelar di Kuala Lumpur.

In a bilateral meeting in Jakarta, President Prabowo and PM Anwar will discuss bilateral relations, follow-up to a number of ASEAN agendas in Kuala Lumpur that have passed, as well as exchanging views on the dynamics of the region and globally which are of common concern.

"This visit is also part of preparations for the 13th Indonesian-Malaysia Annual Meeting which is scheduled to take place this year," said Wisma Putra in a statement.

In 2024, Indonesia will be Malaysia's 6th largest trading partner at the global and 2nd levels in Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, the bilateral trade value between the two neighboring countries in 2024 reached 25.5 billion US dollars, an increase of 4.5 percent from 2023 of 24.39 billion US dollars.
