Argentine Second Division Club Player Dies While Undergoing Knee Surgery

Camilo Nuin - 18-year-old Argentine second division club San Telmo - died on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, while undergoing knee surgery.

The procedure - which is commonly carried out on athletes - is intended to treat meniscus injuries and crucial ligaments to restore joint stability.

"With deep sadness, we announce the death of Camilocuto Nuin, a player in our Young and Reserve Division, who underwent surgery today."

"The club will remain closed today as a sign of mourning. We are joining family, friends, and teammates in this difficult time and are ready to help them for whatever they need," San Telmo said on Instagram.

Neither the club nor local authorities have revealed the exact cause of Nuin's death. Argentine media reported that further details are expected to follow ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Nuin, a left-handed midfielder, joined San Telmo in 2022 after studying at the youth academies of Argentine, Boca Juniors and Independiente clubs.

Various Argentine football organizations, including the Argentine Football Association (AFA), have expressed their condolences.

"The Argentine Football Association, through President Claudio Tapia and the Executive Committee, expressed condolences for Camilo Nuin's death and expressed condolences to the player's family," said AFA.
