Thousands Of Facebook Groups Suspended By Meta Due To Technical Errors

JAKARTA Meta has mass suspended thousands of groups on Facebook recently. This blocking not only happened in the US, but also in other countries in various categories, from games to interior designs.

Complaints about the mass suspension of the group have sprung up on Reddit and other social media platforms. Meta has also confirmed the issue. For now, they are working to fix the problem.

"We are aware of a technical error affecting several Facebook groups. We are working on it now," Meta Spokesperson Andy Stone said, citing TechCrunch on Wednesday, June 25.

It is not yet known why this mass blocking could occur. However, some users suspect that Facebook is experiencing moderation problems based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Based on reports from affected users, the suspended group is not a group that is categorized as dangerous. For example, a suspended group is a place to discuss how to save and raise children.

Facebook has also suspended groups used to discuss games, pets such as dogs and cats, Pokemon groups, groups for mechanical keyboard fans, and much more.

Therefore, suspended group admins believe that their group did not violate platform policies. Several group admins stated that their groups were suspended with types of abuses such as terrorism, nudity issues, or other unrelated topics.

The majority of groups affected were small or about tens of users. However, not a few are also large in size with the number of members reaching tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, to millions of users.
