Garuda Temporarily Closes Flights To Doha, But Other International Routes Are Still Operating

JAKARTA - PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has temporarily suspended all flight services from and to Doha until July 1, 2025.

This decision is in response to the dynamics of the security situation that occurred in the Middle East airspace.

Garuda Indonesia Operations Director Tumpal M Hutapea said this decision was taken as a form of Garuda Indonesia's commitment to continue to prioritize the safety and security aspects of all passengers.

"This is done in line with the implementation of the closure of Qatar airspace by local authorities, in response to the escalation of geopolitical conditions in the region," he said in an official statement, Wednesday, June 25.

Tumpal said that previously on June 23, 2025, Garuda Indonesia had also diverted the GA-900 flight route on the Jakarta Doha route to Kualanamu International Airport, Medan.

The plane landed safely in Medan at 04.22 WIB and was dispatched back to Jakarta on June 24, 2025 at 05.34 WIB, before arriving at Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 08.08 WIB.

"In addition, to ensure the safety and security of all passengers, crew, and personnel who are currently in the affected areas, Garuda Indonesia also continues to coordinate with the Indonesian Embassy in Doha, local authorities, and all relevant stakeholders," he said.

Other International Routes Still Operate Normally

Tumpal emphasized that route closures are only carried out for flights to and from Doha.

Meanwhile, other international routes are still operating normally.

"Until now, Garuda Indonesia's flight services to other international routes such as Jeddah, Medina, and Amsterdam have continued to operate normally," he said.

Even so, Tumpal admitted that the company continues to monitor the dynamics of the security situation that occurred in the Middle East airspace. This includes evaluating flight routes.

"We continue to carry out intensive monitoring and evaluate flight routes and operational conditions based on developments in the situation, in order to ensure full safety for all passengers," he said.

Tumpal said Garuda Indonesia would convey information regularly on matters that could have an impact on flight operations and the journey of all prospective passengers.
