Amazon Investments IDR 800 Trillion In The UK, Creates Distribution Centers And Thousands Of New Jobs

JAKARTA - Amazon announced its plan to invest 40 billion pounds (Rp800 trillion) in the United Kingdom (UK) over the next three years (2025-2027).

This investment will include the construction of four new distribution centers and delivery stations in various regions, as well as an increase of more than 100 operational facilities that already exist across the country.

The investment will also create thousands of new permanent and full-time jobs in the UK, including 2,000 jobs in Hull, 2,000 in Northampton, as well as hundreds of other positions in East Midlands and various shipping stations across the country.

"When Amazon invests, its investment is not only in London and the Southeast region, we present innovations and job creation for communities across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland," Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in his official statement.

Jassy hopes that this investment can strengthen the UK economy and provide a better experience for customers wherever they live.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said Amazon's investment was a form of their trust in Britain as the right country to do business.

"Whether it's the cutting-edge AI or delivery on the same day, this deal shows that our Change Plan was successful in bringing in investment, encouraging growth, and putting more money into people's pockets," he concluded.

Over the past decade (2015'2024), Amazon has poured investment of more than 75 billion pounds sterling (Rp1,5000 trillion) to strengthen its operations in the UK.

This investment is aimed at improving services to customers while creating quality job opportunities in a safe work environment.

Not only that, but Amazon has also invested large investments in research and development (R&D), including delivery technology using drones.

Meanwhile, the centers of the R&D Amazon spread across Cambridge, Edinburgh, Swansea, and London play an important role in the development of global products and services, such as AWS, Prime Video, Music, Game, Alexa, as well as technology for logistics and operations.
