Explanation From The Ministry Of Tourism Regarding Disasters That Hit Brazilian Tourists On Mount Rinjani

JAKARTA The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) expressed its concern over the Mount Rinjani climbing accident that occurred on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

At 06.30 WITA, 26-year-old Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins reportedly fell into a deep ravine in an area near the crater lake of Mount Rinjani while climbing with one guide and five other participants.

Currently, the joint SAR team found the victim's position at a depth of approximately 400 meters, but the evacuation was difficult because of extreme terrain and bad weather.

For this incident, SAR operations continue to use helicopters, thermal drones, as well as two experienced professional climbers, in intense coordination with Basarnas, TNI/Polri, NTB Provincial Government, and the Brazilian Embassy.

"We emphasize that tourist safety is a top priority all agencies are ordered to strengthen SOPs and supervise guidance in extreme destinations," wrote the official statement from the Ministry of Tourism received by VOI

Kemepar will continue to communicate daily with the families of the victims and the Brazilian Embassy so that information is accurate and transparent.

"The latest report from Basarnas that we received, timm managed to find victims with visualization of the Thermal Drone belonging to Kansar Mataram at a depth of approximately 400 meters from the starting point of the victim's fall and it is estimated that the victim is dead. Currently the preparation team for the evacuation process," the statement concluded.
