Due To Dehydration, Newborn Babies Can Get Yellow Disease
JAKARTA - Dehydration can be fatal for babies. Subspecialist neonatologist dr. Rosalina Dewi Roeslani, Sp.A(K) said that yellow disease in newborns can occur due to dehydration, one of which is because children only get breast milk (ASI).
"The reason is that the average breast milk comes out when the child is 3-5 days old so that he gets dehydrated from the child and that is one of the yellow causes," said Rosalina, who is a member of the Indonesian Doctors Association as quoted by ANTARA.
Dehydration causes bilirubins or yellow pigments in the blood cannot come out of the body through feces or urine. Instead of being wasted through feces or urine, the bilirubin is absorbed again by the body.
The condition, which is called the bralfeeding jaundice, can be handled while still providing as much breast milk as possible for children, not stopping breastfeeding. Breast milk intake allows bilirubins to be processed and issued by the body through urine and feces.
"If you drink a lot, the bilirubin that is phesesed and urine will come out," said Rosalina explaining.
Yellow disease can also occur after the child is seven days old, however, this condition is not yet known for sure. In children aged seven days, the condition is thought to have been transmitted by mother through breast milk and estrogen hormone imbalance and progesteron, which hinders the day from processing the yellow pigment.
Rosalina said that if the disturbance exceeds the stipulated limit, you should do therapy according to the doctor's advice.
He also advised breastfeeding mothers to fulfill complete nutrition so that children also get nutrition through breast milk.
