Google Martha Appears On Google I/O 2025, Its Features Make It Merinding!
JAKARTA - Google has finally showcased its prototype Android XR smart glasses at the Google I/O 2025 event. The device is named "Google Martha" and is still in the development stage, not yet available for the public market.
After more than a year of just giving clues through Project Astra, Google has shown a prototype of these glasses on stage. My colleague, C. Scott Brown, even had time to try it out and was quite impressed with the demo presented. However, because it is still a prototype, the available information is still very limited.
An app developer named Sayed Ali Alkamel shared a companion application photo (companion app) from this smart glasses. The application shows several main features such as notifications, access to settings, as well as video recording features from the user's point of view.
From the application, it can be seen that the internal name of this device is "Google Martha." The companion application has the Notification, Settings, View Record menu, as well as the option to provide input or report problems. The Record Your View' feature allows users to record visual views and interfaces of glasses users directly.
Based on information from Google I/O 2025, these smart glasses run on the Android XR platform. This platform opens up many new possibilities based on Gemini artificial intelligence, such as object identification in the real world, direct translation, contextual search, and others.

In design, Google Martha only has a screen on the right lens. This is different from several other devices that use screens on both lenses or don't even use screens at all and rely solely on sound.
But for those of you who are interested in having it, please note that Google Martha is currently not a commercial product. A previous report stated that Google and Samsung are developing XR Android glasses for consumers, which are likely to be released in 2026. However, in the Google I/O event, Google did not confirm this.
Although Martha will most likely never be sold to the public, this project paved the way for similar devices in the future. While waiting, you can look at other alternatives such as the Project Aura of XReal or Samsung's Project Moohan.
