Xabi Alonso: FIFA Investigate Racist Harassment Of Rudiger

JAKARTA - Antonio Rudiger alleges that he experienced racial abuse in the final moments of Real Madrid's victory over Pachuca 3-1 at the 2025 Club World Cup on Monday, June 23, 2025, early morning WIB.

Manager Xabi Alonso said that FIFA had launched an investigation.

Referee Ramon Abatti crossed his lower arm in front of the chest, signaling the activation of antiracism protocols, five minutes into injury time after a brief fight ensued following a foul on Rudiger.

"That's what Rudiger said was (a victim of racism). We believe in him. It's important not to tolerate a situation like this."

"FIFA is currently conducting an investigation. That's all I can say," Alonso said in a press conference after the match.

It is unclear whether the alleged abuse came from the audience or opponents. Gustavo Cabral, Pachuca defender who clashed with Rudiger before speaking with the referee, has denied that he has racially abused the Real Madrid defender.

"Nothing racist. I called him 'chicken s**t' as we said in Argentina, that's all," Cabral told reporters after the game.

Pachuca coach Jaime Lozano said he was not aware of the allegations.

"I just found out now. We haven't talked about it yet. All I can say is that we've never experienced anything like that with Cabral," said Lozano.

FIFA could not immediately clarify the incident when contacted by Reuters because it was still waiting for the referee's report.

Rudiger, 32 years old, has been the target of racist abuse several times while playing for Chelsea, AS Roma, and Real Madrid, both on the pitch and online.
