Nadiem Makarim Responds To AGO's Call Regarding Chromebook Corruption Allegations
JAKARTA - Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim will fulfill the summons for examination of the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Chrome OS or Chromebook-based laptops at the Attorney General's Office (AGO), today.
The statement regarding Nadiem Makarim's presence was conveyed by his lawyer, Hotman Paris Hutapea. It was stated that the former Minister of Education and Culture would arrive at around 08.30 WIB.
"Yes (Nadiem will provide an examination)," said Hotman when confirmed by VOI, Monday, June 23.
However, Hotman will not accompany him. The reason, because he must accompany other clients to undergo trial.
"Nadim was accompanied by the Hotman Paris team, Hana's lawyer. Because Hotman must be tried," he said.
Nadiem Makarim will be investigated regarding the handling of a case of alleged corruption in the procurement of a Chrome OS or Chromebook-based laptop. The AGO scheduled the information collection activity today.
"Investigators have scheduled and summoned Nadiem Makarim's brother to be examined as a witness on Monday, June 23, 2025 (today)," said the Head of the AGO, Harli Siregar.
The plan is for the examination of Nadiem to be carried out at the Round Building and is planned to start at 09.00 WIB.
During the examination later, investigators will explore several things, for example regarding the supervisory function in the Chrome OS or Chromebook-based laptop procurement project.
Not only that, investigators will also explore whether there is a role for Nadiem Makarim in the series of procurements.
"In order to be directed at the use of laptops based on the Chrome operating system (operative system)," said Harli.
In fact, the use of Chromebooks is not a necessity. This is because in 2019 a trial of the use of 1,000 Chromebooks by the Ministry of Education and Culture's Pustekkom was conducted and the results were ineffective.
From this experience, the technical team also recommended using specifications with the Windows operating system. However, at that time, the Ministry of Education and Culture replaced the study with a new study that recommended using Chrome system operations.
